NJIT FSAE is driven by the students that participate in it. Through us, students gain access to valuable technical experience as well as the organizational skills needed for their future careers. These experiences help to prepare Formula SAE members for the industry and make them desirable candidates for engineering positions.

Student-led and student-motivated

Although the faculty and administrative staff of NJIT are incredibly important to our process, the vast majority of our work and organization is done by students. Our leadership and membership are fully composed of current NJIT students, which means that we are able to experience many different aspects of running a successful team. We handle budget proposals, registration, inter-team communication, and, of course, the design and manufacture of the car. This experience helps students learn how to communicate effectively and work in teams in an environment with high stakes and real results. These skills are invaluable for students' future careers.

Professional Opportunities

As we do all of our design and most of our fabrication in-house, NJIT FSAE offers students many opportunities to improve their technical abilities. The manufacturing process allows us to use many of the tools offered in our Makerspace, which is one of the largest college makerspaces on the East Coast. Students are exposed to a wide variety of practical and hands-on learning experiences, including but not limited to:

  • Tig Welding

  • 3D Printing (FDM, SLS, and Metal) and CNC Manufacturing

  • Wire EDM Manufacturing, Laser Cutting, and Waterjet Cutting

  • Oscilloscope Usage and ECU design

  • Composite Manufacture

  • CAD and CAM

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Aerodynamic Design

These skills are incredibly useful in real-world engineering and make students favorable candidates for internships and job positions. Companies often prefer hiring FSAE alumni, and our members have secured internships and jobs at companies like Nylok and Valcor because of their experience with Formula SAE.
